After seven seasons of tireless contribution and commitment, the Chief Scrutineer of the Viking Group Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK), Derek Rumble, has stepped aside and is pleased to offer his post to a new official in 2011.
A passionate motorcyclist and supporter of racing in Australia, Rumble has implemented a host of new scrutineering systems during his tenure and had a positive and lasting impact on the championship during an important growth phase.
His proactive approach and experience in the paddock will be missed, but he views the move as an opportunity for other scrutineers to develop their skills in more senior roles.
“My decision to stand aside was not one I made lightly and I certainly thought long and hard about it,” explained Rumble. “I believe it is the right thing to do and will allow others an opportunity to step into senior officiating roles.”
He will continue to work with the ASBK in a consolatory capacity and will be involved with other roles at various rounds during the year.
Rumble has a significant involvement in motorcycle sport, and one that has grown steadily in recent years.
In 2010 he became the President of Motorcycling Queensland, accompanying his role as a member of Motorcycling Australia’s Road Race Commision since 2008. He has been a senior official’s course presenter on these state and national levels since 2006.
International Entertainment Group Managing Director, Yarrive Konsky, thanked Rumble for his contribution on behalf of the entire championship.
“Derek will be missed but supports his philosophy of encouraging new officials to experience senior roles,” said Konsky.
“His successor will be able to step in and continue the established ASBK scrutineering processes and infrastructure.”
The championship’s new Chief Scrutineer will be announced shortly.
The 2011 Viking Group Australian Superbike Championship begins at Phillip Island on 25-27 February.
