Team Suzuki’s Troy Herfoss was confirmed as the 2010 Insure My Ride Australian Supersport Champion at Symmons Plains this afternoon and he says that a Superbike seat is his next goal.
The championship victory completes an incredible transition from Supermoto to road racing for the talented 23-year-old.
Now, Herfoss has set his sights on the premier Superbike ranks, and that opportunity could come as soon as 2011 with Team Suzuki aboard a factory GSX-R1000 prepared by Phil Tainton Racing.
“The way this year has gone has been perfect,” Herfoss told MotoOnline.com.au in an exclusive Post Race interview this afternoon.
“I’ve had two years on the 600 now and I’m ready to go on to the Superbike. Hopefully Team Suzuki give me the opportunity next year.”
While many expect Herfoss to ride the Superbike for Team Suzuki in 2011, no confirmation has officially been made at this stage.
After a superb maiden two seasons in road racing so far, Herfoss believes a season or two on the Superbike in the ASBK would be the perfect stepping stone to an international career.
“I want to ride the Superbike here in Australia and it’s a good championship, so I’ll do that and then I definitely want to go overseas,” he explained.
Herfoss is already a proven star in the United States, where he was crowned AMA Supermoto Champion in 2008 against the best riders in the world before signing for Team Suzuki in Australian Supersport.
Rapidly rising through the ranks of Australian dirt track and then Supermoto, Herfoss headed to the U.S. to try his hand against the best in the AMA.
Multiple race wins and podiums in his second season saw him secure a coveted AMA crown in 2008.
He returned to Australia in 2009 to make an instant impact on debut in the Supersport class and kept the form and focus heading into 2010 aboard the factory Suzuki GSX-R600.
In 2010 he has scored six race wins, eight race podiums and four pole positions.
Herfoss will trade his customary number 18 for a fresh new number one plate on his GSX-R600 for Sunday’s final race of the season at Symmons Plains.
