The heats have wrapped up at Canberra’s Monster Energy Super X, Australasian Supercross Championship, round, with Americans Justin Brayton (JGR Yamaha) and Kevin Windham (Cougar Bourbon Honda Racing) taking out the pair of Pro Open heats to kick-off the night’s proceedings.

The rain has passed and the evening is stacking up for a big night of action in the Triple Header format, with light rain causing havoc throughout practice and qualifying on a very slick, clay-based track.

In heat one it was Craig Anderson (Berry Sweet Stawberries Honda) who got the holeshot, before Brayton made his way through and was quickly followed by countrymen Josh Hansen (Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki) and Mike Alessi (JDR Motorex KTM).

Brayton eventually won by 0.860 over a fast-finishing Hansen, while Jay Marmont (CDR Rockstar Yamaha) set the fastest lap of the race to climb to third after a slow start.

Alessi ended up settling for a comfortable fourth, while Anderson had a good performance to take fifth.

Marmont’s fastest lap of 41.913 was the fastest of the heats.

The second heat featured more action as fastest qualifier Windham lead early before being passed by Jake Moss (Rockstar Motul Suzuki), but the Moss went down in a slippery turn and had trouble restarting his RM-Z450 to recover to fifth.

Finishing second was Queensland young gun Todd Waters (Cougar Bourbon Honda Racing), 4.151 seconds behind Windham, and ahead of Tye Simmonds (JDR Motorex KTM) and Dan McCoy (Hart and Huntington Coastal KTM).

Title contender Dan Reardon (Cougar Bourbon Honda Racing) finished seventh in heat two, climbing from as far back as 12th at the end of lap one and only just qualifying for the main event.

UPDATE:
The opening Lites heat was dominated by defending champion Matt Moss (Rockstar Motul Suzuki), winning by over six seconds from teammate Lawson Bopping and Cody Mackie (Kawasaki Racing Team).

Heat two was a close one with fastest qualifier PJ Larsen (JDR Motorex KTM) barely winning over Kirk Gibbs (Serco Yamaha) after a flat tyre saw him lose a six-second lead in the final few laps. Gibbs was second, followed by the in-form Kade Mosig (Cougar Bourbon Honda Racing).
