Legendary American Kevin Windham has arrived in Australia for his debut in the Super X, Australasian Supercross Championship, to be held at Canberra Stadium in the nation’s capital tomorrow evening.

Windham, from Centreville, Missisippi, joins the Cougar Bourbon Honda Racing lineup with regular riders Daniel Reardon, Todd Waters and Kade Mosig and will be a formidable force in the Open class at Canberra aboard a Honda CRF450R.

Jetting down under for a single round, Windham is looking forward to the unique Triple Challenge format which is significantly different from the traditional single race contested in U.S. competition.

“I am very excited to be here, this is my first trip to Australia and I have the whole family with me,” Windham said. “It was a long flight and I only arrived yesterday but I am keen to get out and have a look at the track ahead of tomorrow.

“This format is all new to me, but I am pumped and can’t wait to get out there.”

Since starting his pro career in 1994, Windham has won 17 AMA Supercross races, the most recent coming at the end of season 2010.

The 32-year-old has now won at least one AMA Supercross class race in eight different seasons and three different decades.

Cougar Bourbon Honda Thor Racing owner Yarrive Konsky welcomed Windham on behalf of the team and looked forward to hosting the AMA legend for the weekend.

“Kevin is one of the AMA’s most recognised and respected riders and has a tremendous amount of experience against the world’s best behind him,” said Konsky.

“The whole team is excited to have him on board for the round and we’re certain that he’ll be gunning for a win in the Open class on familiar Honda racecraft.”

The Victorian-based team opened its Super X account in strong fashion last weekend, with Reardon and Waters finishing fourth and seventh respectively in Opens and Mosig fourth also in Lites.
