CDR Rockstar Energy Yamaha’s Jay Marmont will feel mixed emotions when he returns to Canberra Stadium this Saturday night for the second round of the 2010 Super X, Australasian Supercross Championship, in the nation’s capital.
Just 12 months ago, the Canberra round of the Super X championship hosted one of the most remarkable and emotional nights in Australian sporting history as Marmont dug deep to win the final moto that night and in turn win the round in a very emotional victory for Jay and his family following the devastating passing of his baby daughter Lila in the lead-up to the event.
It was an amazing night for Marmont and the kind of performance that typifies him as racer – one of the most popular ever racers in the country.
Now, Marmont is back again in 2010 coming off a fifth place finish at the opening round in Newcastle, but hoping some of his Canberra magic rubs off again this year.
“Canberra holds mixed emotions for me,” he commented today. “I won last year which was great, but it was such a tough week on my family and I. But I have a job to do this weekend and that is to get my CDR Rockstar Yamaha up on the podium and chase after this championship.
“Fifth was okay last week, but I must improve in a couple of areas and I think the work I did this week will give me every opportunity to get a better result than at round one.”
Marmont is the current number three plate holder in Super X, wrapping up his third straight Pro Open crown in the MX Nationals, Australian Motocross Championship, earlier this year.
Marmont will be the lone CDR Rockstar Energy Yamaha rider contesting the Canberra round, with stand-in teammate Ross Beaton ruled out due to a shoulder injury picked up at Newcastle. Regular teammate Cheyne Boyd is expected to return from injury for round four in New Zealand.
