Oz SX: Hansen believes he can run up front at Newcastle

American Josh Hansen is confident for his Super X debut tonight in Newcastle.

American Josh Hansen is confident for his Super X debut tonight in Newcastle.

Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Josh Hansen believes he can adjust to the KX450F in time to contend for the Pro Open race victory at tonight’s Monster Energy Super X opener in Newcastle.

The American usually rides the Lites class at home, however a step up to the 450 in Australia will help him prepare for the upcoming AMA season he believes.

“I’m having a lot of fun, kind of working out the bugs,” Hansen, who will run number 25 tonight, said. “I’ve been on the bike like three times since X Games, but I think I can work it out and step it up for the races.

“I’ve been riding the 250 at home, it’s a big change, but definitely a good change and it will only help me when I get back on the Lites bike back home.

“There are a lot of boys out there who can put it up on top of the box, so I’m looking forward to it – I’m kind of curious to see what’s going to go down myself.”

Despite admitting that he didn’t feel completely comfortable in practice, Hansen still put in an impressive performance of third this afternoon.

Hansen is aboard a full Pro Circuit Kawasaki KX450F in Supercross, similar to the bike he has raced at X Games for the past two seasons and pitting under the Troy Carroll-managed Kawasaki Racing Team awning.
