Three-time Australian Motocross Champion Jay Marmont is confident that he can carry momentum into the 2010 Super X, Australasian Supercross Championship, when the series kicks off at Newcastle in New South Wales this Saturday, 16 October.
The CDR Rockstar Energy Yamaha team rider wrapped up his third consecutive Pro Open MX Nationals title already this season, now focussed on improving his current ranking of third in Supercross to round out the year.
“I’m just looking forward to getting the season started,” Marmont said. “”There are a lot of new players on the scene and we’ll be racing against guys from the States who are at the very top of the sport. I just want to get some solid results and build as the season goes on.
“I’ll fight for the best position I can, but at the moment I’ll be aiming to get good starts, ride solid and finish the races. This weekend will be a good opportunity to go out and race Chad [Reed] on his new bike and try to get a win – you just never know what’s going to happen at the opening round.”
Marmont, 27, won two rounds last season and is a fan favourite in Super X, the popular Wollongong local coming fresh from an impressive performance against the world’s best while representing Australia in the Motocross of Nations event in the United States last month.
With seven rounds spanning over the next eight weeks, Marmont has enjoyed the pre-season with preparation both in California and near his hometown of Wollongong, working hard at what he believes is his best chance yet to add a third Supercross title to his resume in what has been an illustrious career to date.
“I didn’t start riding Supercross as early as I usually would since I was at the MXoN event, but I’ve been riding a lot now and I seem to have carried some good momentum into Supercross,” he continued.
“My corner speed is good, the YZ450F feels unreal and everything is coming together right before the weekend. I haven’t peaked to early, so I’m ready to go and can’t wait to put on a show for the Super X fans.”
Newcastle’s season opener will take place at Energy Australia Stadium on Saturday night.
