Gobert Motorsports team rider Aaron Gobert finished a solid sixth overall at Queensland Raceway’s fourth round of the 2010 InsureMyRide Australian Supersport Championship on 20-22 August, moving into the top five overall in the series.

The former AMA Superstock 1000 Champion qualified ninth during Saturday’s qualifying while continuing to develop the team’s Yamaha-supported YZF-R6, before racing to seventh in the first 16-lap race of the weekend on Sunday.

Race two was another step forward for Gobert as he worked his way through the field to fifth place at the race’s end, securing sixth position overall for the round and boosting himself to fifth position in the championship.

“We had worked on the bike development a lot in the lead-up to Queensland Raceway and the rain on Friday meant we missed out on a lot of track time, so we had to work hard on the set-up on Saturday,” Sydney-based Gobert explained.

“By Sunday it all felt comfortable and we had good race pace, however qualifying on the third row made it a lot more difficult to work toward the front guys. Overall it’s another improvement though and I’m looking forward to the next round at Phillip Island next month.”

The round was won by Yamaha Racing Team factory rider Kevin Curtain, with Gobert securing a place on the Privateer Cup podium for the round.

Gobert now sits fifth in the championship on 98 points, looking to improve upon that result as the season enters its penultimate round of 2010 alongside the L&H 500 V8 Supercars Championship Series event at Phillip Island on 10-12 September.

Gobert Motorsports is proudly supported by Yamaha Motor Australia, YRD, Graves Motorsports, Bell Helmets, Alpinestars, Hotbodies Racing, Galfer, Bel-Ray and D.I.D.
