Ducati Motologic’s Jamie Stauffer is confident that he’ll have the package the contend for race victories when the Viking Group Australian Superbike Championship visits Queensland Raceway this weekend.

Stauffer was fastest in Friday practice at the previous round of the series at the ‘Paperclip’ and set the fastest lap of the race in the opening leg, however he failed to complete both of Sunday’s races due to frustrating technical gremlins.

Following a recent test session at the non-championship Winton Motor Raceway in Victoria, Stauffer says his 1198R is improved heading into the fourth round of the 2010 season.

“The bike set-up is the best it has been all year,” the former dual Superbike and Supersport champion explained. “I am excited to have the chance to return to Queensland and put myself back in the competition.

“I was really keen to go to Winton after round three to test the changes made by the team and I wasn’t disappointed. Bike development has definitely paid off as the 1198R set-up is where it needs to be to head back to Queensland Raceway and get back to business.”

Rookie teammate Jordan Burgess finished with 11-16 results in Queensland last time out, also hopeful to improve come Sunday.

“I’m pleased to be returning to Queensland Raceway for round five as it gives me a terrific opportunity to improve on my results and apply all that I learned from the previous round at the circuit,” Burgess said. “I had a reasonable result at the last round, but having experienced a top 10 result already this year I am keen to be back up there at the business end.

“The test at Winton enabled us to really get on top of the bike set-up and I have been really focused on my own preparation going into the weekend so I feel quietly confident that I can achieve my goals at this event.”

Team manager Paul Free believes his team can contend for the top results this weekend.

“The gap between events has been extremely beneficial for us particularly after the last round,” Free said. “The test was crucial and we are really pleased with the outcome. It is important for us to return to Queensland Raceway and get the results we know are possible.

“I know Jordan wants to finish back in the top 10 which he is more than capable of doing and, after a frustrating weekend at Queensland in June, Jamie is a long way back in points and in the championship so now our only focus is to win races.”
