HRP Honda rider Karl Muggeridge has maintained his IDM Superbike Championship lead on the weekend, finishing third in the opening leg and fifth in the second at Schleiz in Germany.
The Australian former Supersport World Champion increased his lead to 23 points in the title chase, comfortable with third in race one before tyre troubles hampered him in the second 20-lap outing of the day.
“I got also the hole shot in the second race but it wasn’t long before the other riders started to pass me,” Muggas said. “I was unable to make the lap times from the first race. I really felt in good shape for the second race from start to end but I just couldn’t keep up with the guys with the lack of grip.
“I really rode my ass off in this race and the best I could do was a fifth, which is a little disappointing considering we had the pace and were unable to convert it into a decent result. With less than one second from the podium we didn’t need a lot.”
Fellow Aussie and RT Motorsports Racing rider Gareth Jones scored a solid result of fifth in race one and seventh in race two, while teammate Jed Metcher finished 16th in race one and 19th in the second.
In Supersport, Aussie Damian Cudlin continued his impressive run of recent form with a victory for MRC Yamaha Austria, taking a 20-point lead in the series.
