Three-time MX Nationals Champion Jay Marmont is in line for a position on Australia's Des Nations team.

Three-time Pro Open Australian Motocross Champion Jay Marmont has revealed that he has plans to contest the final round of the AMA Motocross Championship, potentially using the event to settle in before representing Australia on the Motocross Des Nations team for 2010.

The CDR Rockstar Yamaha rider wrapped up his third straight Rockstar Energy MX Nationals title on Sunday at Coolum, announcing on the podium that he wants to contest at least one round of the AMA series – most likely to be at the final round of the season at Pala Raceway in California on 11 September.

“I want to go and do a race where I don’t have pressure on me to perform in the championship,” Marmont later explained to MotoOnline.com.au.

“I’ve always got that pressure of having the number one plate on my back and everyone’s gunning to beat me, so it’d be great to go over to the States and maybe do the final two rounds.”

With countryman and current 450 Class AMA Motocross Champion Chad Reed ruled out of the remainder of the series this year with Epstein Barr virus, it’s uncertain if he’ll be fit to contest the Des Nations on 25-26 September at Thunder Valley in Colorado, USA.

With Reed likely to be out of the Des Nations team, Marmont is well placed to step up to represent Australia.

“I’m not sure where Reedy’s [Chad Reed] at with his health at the moment, but I really want to get a place in the Des Nations team this year,” Marmont continued. “It’d be a huge deal for me to represent my country so I definitely want to do that. It’s going to be busy in the next few months, but hopefully it all comes together and turns out good.”

Marmont’s third straight title has shined him in the spotlight this week, the feat matching the likes of CDR team boss Craig Dack and the legendary Stephen Gall when it comes to success on a domestic level in Australian motocross.
