Cougar Bourbon Honda Thor Racing’s Todd Waters says he’s almost back to 100 percent fitness as the 2010 Rockstar Energy MX Nationals series enters its penultimate round at Moree in New South Wales this weekend.
A three-week break from competition has allowed the 19-year-old to continue building his strength and speed after coming back from a broken collarbone at the mid-point of the eight-round Australian championship.
A regular contender for podium placings, Waters’ game plan remains unchanged ahead of the event which will feature a sprint format – four eight-lap motos.
“I’m approaching this round like I do every other – I want to finish up the weekend knowing I rode the best I could and gave it absolutely everything,” said Waters. “I’ve been on the Sunshine Coast for the past few weeks, riding with Ford Dale. It’s been good practice and is a way for me to gauge how well I am doing.
“Before the Albury round a few of us raced a club meeting at Moree – it’s a fun track and the club does a pretty good job of getting it ready for us. I feel as though I’m close to the level of fitness I began the season with which is really promising as there isn’t too much ground separating the top seven or eight riders in the championship with lots of points still up for grabs.”
Waters sits seventh on the Pro Open class standings with 230 points.
