Three of the top five finishers in this year’s AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, have been confirmed for the second round of the 2010 Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, to be held in Melbourne on 23 October.
Melbourne will host the biggest supercross race ever held outside of the United States when Australia’s sporting capital hosts round two of the series for the first time ever.
The biggest rider lineup ever assembled outside of the USA includes all of Australia’s best and some of the current top five in the world based on the 2010 AMA Supercross and Motocross series, including Australia’s very own Chad Reed – Australia’s greatest ever supercross rider and current AMA Motocross Champion.
Joining American-based Reed will be top AMA stars Kevin Windham, who was second overall in this year’s AMA Supercross Championship; Davi Millsaps, who was third in this year’s AMA Supercross series; Justin Brayton who was fifth in this year’s AMA Supercross title, and current AMA Motocross number two Mike Alessi.
The event will mark the first time the revolutionary new supercross series has been staged in Melbourne, as well as the first night race in Victoria.
Managing director of Global Action Sports Michael Porra said it is a major coup for the championship and the sport of supercross in Australasia to be having a race of this magnitude in Melbourne.
“The Monster Energy Super X has been a huge success since its inception in 2008 and what a way for us to finally take it to the masses of sporting fans in Melbourne,” Porra commented.
“I know this will be the biggest supercross race ever held outside of America with the extraordinary rider lineup heading to Melbourne to compete under lights on a huge US-designed track at a venue to be announced shortly.”
The event will also include some of the biggest riders in FMX on display including the world number one Blake ‘Bilko’ Williams and double back-flipping Cam Sinclair who are both from Melbourne.
Further announcements on the rider lineup, venue and ticket availability will be made in the coming weeks.
