Australian Andrew Pitt watched on form the sidelines during Sunday’s fourth round of the Superbike World Championship at Assen in the Netherlands, his Reitwagen BMW team making the last minute decision to sit out the round, however he says the team aims to be back for the next round at Monza.

The all-new Reitwagen team has joined the series in a satellite role for BMW Motorrad with the brand new S 1000 RR this season, however a lack of race-sped electronics has left the team fighting from the back foot for the opening part of the season on what is essentially a Superstock 1000 machine.

“Obviously I’m disappointed that I’m a spectator here at Assen and I love this circuit,” Pitt commented. “I found out we were not racing here during the week.

“I’m told there is some financial restructuring going on and that there is no point racing until the bike can be further developed, so the aim is to make a comeback at Monza.”

The season got off to a slow start for the team and Pitt when the bikes were slow arriving, before a development testing schedule was carried out at Phillip Island in the lead up to the season opener in February – the team taking the unorthodox approach of testing at public ride days.

Ex-dual Supersport World Champion Pitt won the World Supersport race at Assen in 2008, came second in 2007 and scored two second place podiums on the Superbike in 2006.

The Monza round will take place at the famous high-speed Italian circuit on May 7-9.
