Yamaha Racing Team press release:
The Yamaha Racing Team’s Pat Medcalf opened his Superstock 1000 class campaign with two wins from two starts at this weekend’s Symmon’s Plains round of the Australian Superbike Championships (ASBK).
The young gun topped practice and qualifying before making a clean getaway in Saturday’s opening race to take his first win of the season.
He backed up with a second win this morning to collect 50 championship points and the outright Superstock 1000 class lead.
“The R1 was great from the word go,” said Medcalf. “I was almost back to full fitness following a tough weekend at Phillip Island and felt good the moment I took to the track.
“We didn’t have to change too much in terms of setup, and taking pole was a good confidence booster ahead of the opening race.
“I put my head down and concentrated on setting quick laps early before settling into a rhythm in both races.
“It’s a good way to kick things off, I’m looking forward to the next meeting where we will be looking to carry over similar form.”
YRT’s star Superbike pairing made steady progress throughout the initial practice and qualifying sessions, and both Daniel and Jamie Stauffer looked set to challenge the frontrunners in this morning’s opening 20-lap showdown.
Jamie also headed the Supersport class qualifying, with YRT Supersport rider and championship leader Bryan Staring comfortably securing grid position three.
A serious incident forced the cancellation of the remainder of today’s competition.
