Motorex KTM’s Toby Price has moved into the lead of the 2010 Yamaha Australian 4-Day Enduro after the third day yesterday.

After 21 special tests, Ballard’s Wellard Yamaha racer Stefan Merriman dropped to second, 30-seconds off the Outright and E2 Class lead.

Merriman lead the 260-strong field the first two days of the race, which is being held at Portland (near Lithgow, NSW).

A crash in the second enduro special test today cost the 36-year-old WR450F rider 30-seconds, dropping him behind Price for first Outright.

“I was braking, didn’t see a root and it sort of chucked me sideways into a tree,” Merriman said. “I got my clutch jammed up so I had to sort of fix things before I could get going.

“It cost 30-seconds, so it was a bit of a pain. After that I just tried to beat Toby back, but I didn’t manage to. I’ve got the final motocross tomorrow, I’m up against a few good motocrossers so I’ll just try and do my best and see what happens.”

The final motocross and finale of the 32nd annual Yamaha A4DE is being held tomorrow at Clearview on Wallarawang-Rydel Road in Wallarawang.

Another Yamaha rider placed in the top-five of the hotly contested E2 Class is Queenslander ‘King Kirk’ Hutton.

Hutton, 36, came third Outright in today’s second test and finished the day fifth Outright.

“I’ve been having one of my best four-days, if I can finish on the podium in the E2 Class that would be great and I’m close, there’s only a few seconds in it,” Hutton said.

“The YZ450F is awesome and I’m having a blast on it… I’m really happy with how I’m riding – I knew I was riding the YZ450F well, but I didn’t expect to be that fast.

“I’m looking forward to the final MX tomorrow, I love big grass tracks and the final MX is a pearler so I can’t wait.”
