Defending Australian Supercross champion Dean Wilson’s season is up in the air after sustaining a suspected shoulder injury yesterday in the WSX Perth double-header, due to undergo further assessment this week.

After finishing P5 in round two, Wilson salvaged sixth on Sunday for round three despite contact putting him out of the SuperFinal and casting his AUSX title defence into doubt.

Wilson had his left shoulder in a protective sling late last night at HBF Park, but there has been no indication since whether he will be fit to enter Melbourne’s high-profile AUSX Open, which doubles as the final round of the 2024 championship.

“The extent of the injury won’t be known until after we receive the results of an MRI,” Konsky told MotoOnline. “Hopefully we can manage it during the week and he can race in Melbourne, but we don’t know yet. It’s extremely disappointing because Dean was riding so well.

“Dean was a victim of careless riding from another competitior, which is extremely frustrating, and it happens too often with a complete disregard for other people’s safety. Dean was riding fantastic tonight and has put in a massive effort for this season, so hopefully it’s not over but we won’t know until the next day or two.”

American import Joey Savatgy currently leads the domestic SX1 championship following four rounds, holding a nine-point advantage over Honda Racing teammate Wilson. Top Australian Luke Clout (Empire Kawasaki) is a further nine points outside of Savatgy.
