Bar-to-bar racing has been the theme of the 2024 Fox Australian Supercross Championship (AUSX), and that was the case once again as the series headed to Adelaide for the Boost Mobile Supercross Sprint. We’ve compiled the direct takes from riders in this Reflection feature.

Jed Beaton (CDR Yamaha Monster Energy Team) – Third overall:
There was a lot going on out there over those four races and I wasn’t even thinking about the points in any race, I was just trying to keep it on two wheels and get the best result possible. Starts were so important but mine were so bad that it actually worked in my favour as I was able to see what was unfolding, keep away from the trouble and pick my way through the traffic quickly. But it’s not a plan that I would like to use any time as a good start always makes things easier. But really happy to be up on the podium and pumped to get this one for the CDR Yamaha team as we have been working away behind the scenes. It’s a shame we have one round to go, as I’m just getting warmed up.

Matt Moss (CDR Yamaha Monster Energy Team) – 10th:
Today was probably as good as I have felt at a race so far this year. I posted some good laps in qualifying and thought with a few good starts, I could challenge for some race wins tonight, but it wasn’t to be. The first few laps of every race had riders going everywhere and unfortunately, I was caught up in it in race two and did some damage to my bike. The guys worked furiously between the races to get it sorted but they did an awesome job, and we were able to finish the night pretty well. I’m really looking forward to Melbourne in a couple of weeks’ time. It’s always been an awesome event and with the international riders coming and a big crowd in the stadium, it’s going to be unreal.

Joey Savatgy (Quad Lock Honda Racing) – First overall:
I had one bad race after getting caught up with Luke Clout, but the extra point for the fastest lap worked in my favour. The track was super technical, which made it exciting for the fans but nerve-wracking for us riders. I’m happy to have extended my points lead, especially with the Lawrence brothers and Cooper Webb joining the competition in Melbourne.

Dean Wilson (Quad Lock Honda Racing) – Second overall:
It’s not over, but I’ve made it harder on myself by not beating Joey here. I tweaked my knee on Friday, which swelled up, causing some pain, but Joey rode great. All I can do is give it everything in Melbourne and see what happens.

Nathan Crawford (KTM Racing Team) – Ninth overall:
It was a tough weekend. I didn’t qualify well and as a result my gate pick for the sprint races was further to the outside than I would’ve liked, but we’ll regroup and get ready for the final round in Melbourne in two weeks.

Dylan Wills (GasGas Racing Team) – 12th overall:
It’s a bit disappointing with the way it played out, but we did what we had to do with the cards we were dealt and made the most of it. I’ve been feeling really good on the bike and was ready to achieve more this weekend, but it is what it is, and we’ll move onto Melbourne now to try and get some redemption. A massive thank you to the whole team!

Jack Mather (Raceline Husqvarna Racing) – 11th overall:
It was a super-cool event here at Adelaide alongside the Supercars. The track was tight and pretty gnarly, and we had four gate-drops, which caused a bit of mayhem. I’m happy to come out with decent results and will come out swinging for the final round at Melbourne.

Shane McElrath (Polyflor Honda Racing) – First overall:
These guys are fast. Racing them was fun, it was respectful but hard. They have bright futures, and I was impressed by their performance.

Kaleb Barham (Yamalube Yamaha Racing) – Seventh overall:
I started the weekend a little on the back foot, but seemed to gain momentum as the weekend went on. I qualified well, and my speed was good, so going into the four sprint races, starts were the key. They weren’t too bad, and I was always there abouts inside the top five for most of the night. I made a mistake in race two right at the end and went down but otherwise it was a reasonable night and some intense racing.

Kayden Minear (KTM Racing Team) – Fifth overall:
It was an eventful night. I got the holeshot in the first race and panicked a little, but the rest of the races were good – I rode smart and brought it home. I love the Sprint format and I got better and better with each race… It’d be nice if the races were a bit longer, but having more gate drops is my type of racing. It was a really cool event alongside the Supercars and I can’t wait for the Perth World Supercross round this coming weekend.
