More riders sidelined with two rounds remaining in AUSX 2024.
A series of additional rider injuries will further deplete the SX2 field entering this weekend’s Adelaide round of the 2024 Fox Australian Supercross Championship (AUSX).
South Australia’s Supercross Sprint weekend – marking the penultimate round of the season – will see a reduced line-up of 250 class riders following a bruising outing at Wollongong last time out.
The multi-rider heat race crash involving Ryder Kingsford will see the Yamalube Yamaha Racing rider sit out round four with a thumb injury, but with the intention of returning for Perth’s World Supercross Championship (WSX) event and the upcoming AUSX Open in Melbourne. It’s expected that Alex Larwood (Honda Racing) will be fit to start his home race this weekend.
Both Rhys Budd (Raceline Husqvarna TDub Racing) and Myles Gilmore have been ruled out following their clash in the same moments at the New South Wales round, while Bailey Malkiewicz will also be sidelined after fracturing his pelvis and rib, which also resulted in a punctured lung and bruised heart, in the second final.
After missing the previous round with a rib injury, Honda Racing’s opening round winner Noah Ferguson won’t be back for Adelaide at least, while mid-week incidents since Wollongong have also resulted in untimely – and unspecified – injuries for Jayce Cosford (Yamalube Yamaha Racing), Byron Dennis (GasGas Racing Team) and Cambell Williams (Raceline Husqvarna), who has already undergone surgery on a broken femur.
A clean-sweep in the Wollongong Triple Crown sees Shane McElrath (Polyflor Honda Racing) hold the SX2 red plate with two rounds remaining, ahead of teammates Cole Thompson and Brodie Connolly. Top of the Australians at this point in the series is Empire Kawasaki’s Reid Taylor in fourth position.
