Beaton and Connolly top MX1 and MX2 qualifying at Queensland Moto Park.
Victory in the opening moto today has secured Charli Cannon her third-straight MXW title at Queensland Moto Park’s final round of the 2024 Penrite ProMX Championship, while Jed Beaton and Brodie Connolly emerged as the fastest qualifiers in MX1 and MX2.
Honda Racing’s Cannon has gone undefeated so far this season, charging to victory ahead of Taylor Thompson (Husqvarna) and Taylah McCutcheon (Empire Kawasaki) in race one to clinch the championship with a moto to spare, which is set to be staged tomorrow.
CDR Yamaha Monster Energy’s Beaton made a statement in MX1 qualifying after setting a blistering time that was 1.789s faster than his nearest rival and championship leader Kyle Webster (Honda Racing), whose best lap was a 1m54.127s.
Veteran duo Todd Waters (Raceline Husqvarna TDub Racing) and Kirk Gibbs (GasGas Racing Team) were third and fourth respectively, followed by KTM Racing Team’s Nathan Crawford.
The top 10 was completed by Luke Clout (Empire Kawasaki), Zachary Watson (Husqvarna), Maximus Purvis (WBR Yamaha), Wilson Todd (Honda Racing), and Caleb Ward (Husqvarna). The top 10 will be decided tomorrow in the Pole Shootout.
MX2 qualifying was once again dominated by newly-crowned champion Connolly, the Honda Racing rider sporting the number one plate for the very first time as he set a quick-time of 1m55.446s, placing him 0.883s ahead of Yamalube Yamaha Racing’s Jayce Cosford, who scored his best qualifying result of the season.
KTM Racing Team’s Kayden Minear held down P3 with a time of 1m56.689s, while the top five was rounded out by Noah Ferguson (Honda Racing) and Ryder Kingsford (Yamalube Yamaha Racing).
Positions six through 10 were taken out by Rhys Budd (Raceline Husqvarna TDub Racing), Reid Taylor (Empire Kawasaki), Alex Larwood (Honda Racing), Cambell Williams (MotoGo Yamaha), and Haruki Yokoyama (Honda).
In MX3, it was GasGas Racing Team’s Ky Woods who stormed to the top of the timesheets ahead of Deacon Paice (KTM) and Jake Cannon (Honda Racing). Racing is due to kick off tomorrow at 10:12am local time.
