GasGas Racing Team newcomer Byron Dennis is targeting a return to the Penrite ProMX Championship’s sixth round at Toowoomba next weekend after undergoing surgery to repair broken radius and ulna bones in his arm.

The 17-year-old MX2 rookie Dennis impressed early in the season, landing himself on the overall podium at the second round of the season in Horsham, where he finished the weekend P2 overall.

Unfortunately, a crash on the opening lap of Maitland’s first moto on the Saturday afternoon forced Dennis to the sidelines for the remainder of the weekend and round five at Murray Bridge last month.

“It’s good to be back on the bike,” Dennis told MotoOnline. “It’s a lot more enjoyable than sitting on the sidelines watching everyone else ride [laughs]. It’s really good to be back, everything feels solid and it kind of feels like I never left to be honest. The bike is feeling good and I’m already feeling comfortable.

“I broke my radius and ulna, and ended up getting the ulna plated. I flew up to Brisbane to have it operated on by Dr. Steven Andrews and yeah, I only missed six weeks of riding luckily. So I’m looking forward to getting back behind the gate at Toowoomba and finishing this motocross season out.”

Dennis currently sits 13th in the MX2 standings, despite missing five motos while on the sidelines. There are three Queensland-based rounds remaining in ProMX, beginning next Sunday, July 21, at the Echo Valley circuit in Toowoomba.
