National MX3 contender Ky Woods has been drafted into Team Australia for the 2024 FIM Junior Motocross World Championship as a late addition to replace Heath Fisher, who will miss the event with a fractured radius.

US-based Fisher made his way to Europe early to prepare for this year’s event, but a crash while racing at Circuit Kamperweg Heerde in the Netherlands – the same track where they’ll host the world championship – resulted in the untimely injury.

The late inclusion of Woods will see him represent Australia for the fourth time in his young career, notably racing to P2 in the 65cc category in the 2019 edition of the event and showing speed last year by qualifying inside the top five in the 125cc category.

“I’m bummed for Heath to be missing it because of an injury,” Woods told MotoOnline. “But I’m stoked I got the call up to fill-in, this will be my fourth time respresenting Australia at the world juniors.

“I haven’t been on the 125 all year, so I’m excited to get back on that and line up agaisnt the best guys in the world. I’ve had some good results at this event in the past, so I’m looking forward to getting out there this weekend.”

Woods – the current Australian 125cc 15-years number one – will line up alongside WBR Yamaha rider and current MX3 red plate-holder Koby Hantis in the 125cc category for Team Australia.
