Rising Motorsports regular lining up in 450MX at Hangtown round.
Fresh from finishing inside the top 10 at the Maitland round of Penrite ProMX, Australian teenager Zac Watson will contest this weekend’s second round of the 2024 AMA Pro Motocross Championship at Hangtown in Northern California.
The 19-year-old Rising Motorsports Husqvarna team regular will be onboard a similar specification KTM in the American series riding 450MX, eager to get an introduction to the sport at that level and taking a measured approach into the one-off opportunity.
“I’ll be racing Hangtown because my boss that I actually work with during the week, he’s really into racing and offered to take me over to race Pro Motocross,” Watson told MotoOnline. “We want to see where we’re at and what it’s like to race over there. I’ll have my ECU, suspension and that sort of stuff, just little bolt-on things that help with performance.
“I don’t really have any expectations. I want to see where I am at, so as long as I get two good starts, and wherever I end up I will be pretty happy. We’ll do three days on the bike before the weekend and we’ll see how we go from there.”
Emerging Queenslander Watson finished in P8 across all three motos at round four of ProMX for eighth overall in the MX1 category, currently positioned ninth in the point-standings at the halfway mark of the 2024 season.
“I started off a little bit slower than I had hoped, but it finally came together this weekend with three good starts and I put myself somewhere I think I belong,” he added, post-race in New South Wales on Sunday afternoon.
