Ducati Turismo Celebrated its 10th anniversary in Tasmania last weekend, where 300 motorcycles took part in the event over three days of riding in sunny conditions on 9-11 February.
On the Sunday, 7 February, registration day at the Ducati Sports Rider Dealership in Launceston kicked off the event. Participants were able to receive their goodie bags and of course the first days route. Many turned up for the goodies, enjoying the sausage sizzle raising money for the McGrath Foundation and found time to restock on some much needed riding gear at the dealership.
Ducati’s all-new Multistrada 1200 was on hand during the event, with the ride itinerary taking riders from Launceston to Hobart. Stopping in Devonport on 8 February, St Helens on 9 February, and Hobart on the 10th.
The specially executed route for each day was released to participants the evening prior to riding as Warren Lee, CEO, would explain the route that he had a hands on approach in creating.
“Turismo’s 10th Anniversary was a huge success, naturally this was due to the participation, enthusiasm and passion of people who voted to return to Tassie – one of the best motorcycling destinations in all of Australia,” said Lee.
The journey was launched from Launceston at Royal Park, complete with police escort, the Ducati motorcycles rode off through Launceston continuing along the scenic route to Devonport. Later that evening the group came together to celebrate a great day of riding at The Axeman’s Hall of Fame.
Again the group set out on 9 February touring to St Helens and taking in any great roads along the way. Tidal Waters hosted the second evening’s dinner with exotic food stations for the riders to experience at the cocktail style event.
On Wednesday a line of red was made for Hobart, the final destination where many riders had an evening to themselves.
The final day, Thursday the 11th, spent in Hobart was centre stage at the Wrest Point Casino car park where the notorious bike show took place.
Motorcycles were placed and judged within four categories: Best Superbike, Best Naked, Best Sport Touring and Best Sport Classic. The winners would have to wait to find out their results later that evening.
To celebrate the journey the Gala Dinner caused many a fuss by Ducati riders. Unleashing the pirates within, ‘Pirate Pleasures & Treasures’ theme was executed in true Ducati style – unsurpassed, passionate and rebellious pirates walked down the pier at the Hobart Convention Centre.
The Ducati Turismo 2010, the 10th anniversary of Turismo events in Australia, was a complete success according to Ducati Australia.
Part Turismo participants were given the opportunity to vote where the 10th anniversary should occur and Tasmania, the clear favorite, did not disappoint. The event was home to many past Turismo stories but of course created its own new set of memories for each participant.
