WBR Yamaha SX1 racer Bailey Malkiewicz has been ruled out of the remaining two rounds of the 2023 Australian Supercross Championship (AUSX) after sustaining a broken wrist in a training crash.

The 22-year-old finished 10th in Adelaide’s final at the season opener, but an incident while preparing for the Triple Crown at McDonald Jones Stadium means he will be sidelined from Newcastle and Marvel Stadium as he undergoes surgery to help repair the damage.

“Definitely not the post I want to be doing but all I can say is thanks to my team and everyone around me!” explained Malkiewicz. “I won’t be lining up this weekend in Newcastle or at all for the remainder of this year due to a small crash in a corner whilst training over the weekend… I’m scheduled for surgery this Friday and will try to be back on a bike ASAP.

“No plans for next year as of yet but after a few rough years of injury’s one after another it’s taking its toll physically and mentally but it’s not over yet I’m still determined and motivated as ever to do big things and that’s what I’m going to do so I wish everyone the best for these remaining races and I’ll see you behind the gates soon.”

It has been a challenging past few years for Malkiewicz with a number of injuries meaning he has had multiple campaigns in national motocross or supercross cut short or affected, plus time spent in the European EMX250 championship impacted. Nonetheless, the former 125 Junior Motocross World champion remains determined to return to the gate, with 2023 marking his first campaign in the 450 class.
