The pace and versatility of Matt Moss were on display at Abu Dhabi as the crafty Australian posted a blistering time to top superpole, back onboard the ClubMX FXR Yamaha at the second round of the 2023 World Supercross Championship (WSX).

Prior to the outing at Yas Island, Moss – a multi-time national champion – competed in the opening round of the 2023 Australian Supercross Championship (AUSX) in October with the Empire Kawasaki team, where he was third on the night in SX1.

His last competitive outing with the ClubMX outfit was Birmingham’s WSX opener in July, but he wasted no time in adapting back to YZ450F and after finishing runner-up in heat one. He stormed to the top of final qualifying with a 34.061s, which placed him nearly half a second clear of nearest rival Dean Wilson (Fire Power Froth Honda).

While overall the finals didn’t go to plan for the number 102, ultimately finishing 15th for the round, the proven contender can hold his head high with the potential he again displayed.

“What an amazing place!!” said Moss. “My night didn’t go to plan, but I’m happy with my heat and my superpole. It’s a day to reflect and I can’t complain, I’m doing what I love and travelling to places I wouldn’t get to see if WSX championship didn’t put these events together. So thanks to my team, ClubMX, and WSX for the opportunity… I’ll get it done in Melbourne.”

The attention of Moss now turns to the second round of the 2023 Australian Supercross Championship (AUSX), where he will return to the KX450 platform with Empire Kawasaki this Saturday in Newcastle.
