The Triple Crown format used for round two of the Australian Supercross Championship (AUSX) in Newcastle will prove pivotal in the 2023 title chase, with up to three times as many points on offer come Saturday night.

Three rounds feature in this year’s AUSX season, with just a single final at both Adelaide’s opener and Marvel Stadium in Melbourne to conclude the campaign, meaning available points through the championship are limited.

However, the upcoming event in Newcastle will boast three finals in the SX1 and SX2 categories as part of the Triple Crown format. What makes this so crucial and unique, is that full championship points are available for each of those outings, with points handed out per race as opposed to overall finishing position on the night – as it was last season under an Olympic scoring format.

A maximum of 75 points are available in Newcastle if a rider were to win all three main events, with this single round offering more to gain or lose than the rest of the season altogether.

Entering McDonald Jones Stadium, Froth Honda Racing’s Dean Wilson holds the SX1 red plate, while defending champion Max Anstie (Boost Mobile Honda Racing)) leads SX2 following the Adelaide opener last month.
