Following damage sustained in moto two at Budds Creek.
Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing fill-in Jay Wilson’s US cameo came to an end prematurely after a twisted ankle in moto two at Budds Creek ultimately meant he was unable to complete the 2023 Pro Motocross Championship finals at Ironman.
Wilson attempted to ride in the morning’s practice session at round 11 but decided to sit the motos out when he realised his ankle wasn’t in the condition to compete at the level required.
“I twisted my ankle in moto two at Budds Creek,” said Wilson. “I was hoping to ride today, but after practice, we realised it wasn’t possible to ride at the level I needed to. It was a difficult decision to sit out today, but I have to focus on the big picture. I have other jobs I have to stay healthy for.
“I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity I’ve had here with the team, and I’m excited to continue working together in the future.”
Japan-based Wilson had been in the US testing which led to an opportunity to fill in for Eli Tomac across the final three rounds of the 2023 Pro Motocross Championship.
The Australian notched a 23-12 scorecard at Unadilla and went 14-16 in the penultimate round. He currently leads the All-Japan Motocross Championship onboard a YZ450F with the new Yamaha Factory Innovation Team, as the next motos in that series take place at Meihan Sportsland between 9-10 September.
