Determined to finish season strong to secure 2024 future.
A chance relocation back to Western Australia during the break in the 2023 Penrite ProMX Championship has GasGas Racing Team’s Regan Duffy ready to push ahead in the final two rounds.
Duffy was part of the Victorian-based Beaton’s Pro Formula throughout the opening six rounds of the season, but ultimately made the decision to stay in WA after returning home following Toowoomba.
“It wasn’t like something that I had planned, I had intended on staying east and one thing led to another and I just didn’t end up going back,” Duffy explained to MotoOnline.
“I’ve stayed home and it has been really good to just get my confidence back a little bit in myself, with the training and everything like that. Focusing on myself has been a massive thing for me, and I don’t think I was really getting the chance to do that. There’s not really much else to say about it – it’s all been going really well so I’m stoked on it.”
Following the incident that almost cost him his life in 2021, Duffy has remarkably returned to professional competition in 2023, despite a thumb injury impacting his pre-season. Admittedly, he hasn’t achieved the results he has desired so far, having led the ProMX MX1 standings throughout his rookie campaign in the premier class two years ago.
Duffy’s currently 15th in the MX1 title race, determined to keep progressing throughout the remaining races this year to help secure a ride for the 2024 season. He is currently contracted to the GasGas Racing Team for the outdoors and the upcoming Australian Supercross Championship (AUSX).
“Obviously I haven’t put any good results on the board all year,” he added. “I’ve had a couple of flashes, but nothing concrete, I guess you would say. I’m hoping to go well in these last two rounds and try to set myself up to potentially get another ride from whoever that may be. I’m not too sure yet, I’m still trying to figure it out.
“I’m definitely keen to go into 2024, it has been… it’s tough because this year was sort of my rebuilding year and everyone knows that, of course, but to an extent you still need to put results on the board to be able to be backed again going into 2024. Now the pressure is on a little bit, but I don’t mind that, so we will be fine.”
Round seven of the 2023 Penrite ProMX Championship takes place at Queensland Moto Park (QMP) this Sunday, with the series finals taking place the following weekend at Coolum.
