Australian Superbike Championship promoter International Entertainment Group has announced that the control tyre tender for the series has been awarded to Dunlop Tyres for the next three seasons.
Dunlop Tyres have been the controlled tyre of choice for the Australian Superbike Championship for the past two years, with Dunlop motorcycle and motorsports national manager Ken Wieden pleased with their continued involvement.
“We at Dunlop are excited with this announcement and are proud to be appointed this tender,” Wieden said. “This was an important contract for us and our distributors to win. Dunlop has always been seriously involved in racing and to be awarded this contract means we can continue our association with the nation’s premier championship series.
“Racing means many things for us, from product development to promoting the brand image to sales. We believe in our product and all at Dunlop are avid motorcycle racing fans. We are proud to be associated with IEG & the ASBK and look forward to an exciting championship series in 2010 and the years to follow”.
Tyres are an integral part to competition and the tender process was measured on copious levels, according to a release from IEG.
The tyre manufacture had to display their willingness to support racers, support the championship and support the sport as well as provide a tyre that was capable to perform.
“Dunlop’s proposal provided everything the championship required and their proven track record under pinned everything they put forward,” IEG director John Naggar said. “This was something we needed to do, so we could ensure that we were providing what our participants where asking for. Along with performance, riders have been pushing us to look at cost reduction strategies.
“The tender Dunlop put forward displayed an equal concern for performance and costing. I can confidently say that riders will be happy with Dunlop’s contingency plan and pricing.”
All classes in 2010 will have a control tyre to help reduce costs and there is also an all new contingency program from Dunlop that will aide in reducing on going costs for riders.
Information regarding the number of tyres per round that can be used will be available in the Supp Regs.
