Official word from the Team San Manuel Yamaha office confirms James Stewart will line up on the start gates for Anaheim 2 this weekend, the event marking round three of the 2010 Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship.
The decision was made today after a week-long intensive physical therapy program to help him recover quickly from injuries sustained during the Phoenix race, suffered in a heat race crash and then again in the main event collision with Australia’s double series champion Chad Reed.
“I don’t want to let my fans or my team down,” defending champion Stewart said. “They’ve been really supportive this week while I did what I needed to do. I’m close enough to the points lead and I need to be out there if I’m going to have a shot at another championship.”
Stewart previously has won the championship in 2007 and 2009, however Rockstar Makita Suzuki rookie Ryan Dungey currently leads the 2010 point chase.
