The ‘mindset’s changed’ for Maitland MX2 moto two winner Jesse Dobson who has outlined that he is going to the start line to win every race as opposed to trying to consolidate points for a championship position.

A challenging start to the season saw Dobson enter the fourth round ninth in the championship standings, 45 points from red plate-holder Wilson Todd (Terrafirma Honda Racing).

The Serco Yamaha rider qualified fastest at Maitland but an early mistake in moto one dropped him to the back of the field. Dobson was able to recover to finish P9, before delivering a commanding performance to take a 13.872s race two victory which landed him fourth overall for the round.

“After the last round, as a team we were all pretty disappointed,” Dobson said to MotoOnline. “We had some pretty terrible results at the last round, and even Appin were not the results that Jesse Dobson should be getting. My mindset has just changed now, kind of out of the points so I’m going to the start line to try and win every race.

“That is my mindset, we are all out here to try to win, but more so now, than ever. Maybe that got the best of me in the first race, and that is why I went down, I was in second on that first lap and just tried a different line up the inside of Wilson [Todd], and it didn’t work out and I ended up going down.

“Maybe that mentality of winning every race bit me there, probably should have been a little bit more patient, but it’s all part of racing. I’m just happy to be back, I’m feeling pretty fit now, feeling pretty strong, feeling pretty speedy after everything that I have gone through with my shoulder reco and other bits and pieces, also coming off the last two weekends with head knocks. To get the win is pretty nice.”

At the halfway point of the Penrite ProMX Championship, Dobson is sixth in the MX2 standings and will look to add more race victories to his 2023 tally next time out at Gillman, South Australia on 28 May.
