Final ProMX appearance of the season for Moss with WBR Yamaha.
Multi-time Australian champion Matt Moss will race this weekend’s Maitland round of the Penrite ProMX Championship in the MX2 class, returning to the quarter-litre category for the first time domestically since 2011.
Maitland will spell the last appearance for Moss with the WBR Yamaha team, who he has ridden for at the past two rounds in the MX1 class filling in for the injured Bailey Malkiewicz. The team have since called in New Zealand MX1 champion Maximus Purvis to race MX1.
The addition of Purvis ultimately lead to the decision to put Moss on a YZ250F for Maitland, since MX2 team regular Ryder Kingsford is also out injured.
“I’m excited to race MX2, it’s going to be interesting,” Moss told MotoOnline. “I really don’t know what to expect because there’s a lot of guys in this class that I’ve never raced before, so I’m looking forward to getting out there on WBR’s YZ250F and seeing where we stack up.
“It’s my last race with the team, so we thought that because Ryder Kingsford is out injured and Maximus [Purvis] is holding his own in MX1, why not have a bike out there in the MX2 class? The last time I raced MX2 in Australia, it was the Pro Lites class [laughs], so I’m pumped to get out there and have a fun weekend with the team. That’s the goal right now, just keep enjoying riding my dirt bike.”
Round three of the 2023 Penrite ProMX Championship this weekend in Maitland will see the first two-day event of the season take place. The event marks the last appearance outdoors in 2023 for Moss, as he sets his sights forward to the World Supercross Championship kicking off on 1 July at Villa Park in Birmingham, UK, where he will compete in the SX1 class with MDK Motorsports on a 2023 Yamaha YZ450F.
