John Sample Automotive, Australian importers of Aprilia motorcycles, has advised of a recall of the RSV4 Factory model due to “a potential engine failure due to the identification of a batch of components that do not meet quality standards”.
According to a statement from JSA late Thursday afternoon, the voluntary and precautionary recall will include most of the RSV4 Factory models that were imported into Australia prior to 31 December 2009.
The announcement and decision to recall affected models has been released despite there being zero cases in Australia according to a JSG representative, however Aprilia’s plan is to rectify the issue with the components before any customers potentially experience an engine problem.
JSA is currently in correspondence with customers and dealers regarding the matter after receiving the list of bikes to be recalled, planning to implement a program to attend to all effected units once Aprilia has formerly announced the recall and procedure.
Aprilia’s Italian factory is currently preparing a shipment of engines, which is anticipated to be air-freighted to Australia in the coming days.
Important to note, the recall does not include the RSV4 R model that is being introduced to Australia in February as the engines were manufactured after the problem was detected, according to JSA.
More information is expected to be released next week.
