Outlines Toowoomba ProMX round as tentative national MX2 return.
WBR Yamaha’s Ryder Kingsford has undergone surgery on his left foot following a practice crash and will be sidelined from upcoming rounds of the 2023 Penrite ProMX Championship as he recovers.
Kingsford, 18, crashed last Saturday while riding at a practice track in Victoria, breaking multiple metatarsals in the incident. He went under the knife this morning and now begins the recovery process, outlining the Toowoomba round of ProMX as a tentative MX2 return date.
“I was just at the practice track during the week and tucked the front in a corner, and just the way my foot landed between the bike and the ground, it just crushed it,” Kingsford said to MotoOnline.com.au. “I ended up breaking all five of my metatarsals.
“I went in this morning for surgery and got some plates, screws and a wire or two in there to bring it all back together. So hopefully, I won’t be off the bike too long and we can get back to it.
“At this point, we’re just playing it by ear, but Toowoomba is what we’re going to aim for, but we’ll know more when we get a bit of a timeline.”
Kingsford made the step up to the MX2 category last year with WBR Yamaha and was a revelation in his rookie campaign in the category, scoring consecutive podium finishes at Wodonga and Gillman.
Unfortunately, his campaign last year was cut short after he ruptured his ACL and MCL, and he competed in the opening two rounds of ProMX this year in his return before the recent foot injury.
The Penrite ProMX Championship continues this Sunday with round three at Wodonga, while the Toowoomba marks round six of the series and is set to take place on 25 June.
