Beaton and Gibbs complete the top three as the gate picks are finalised.
Brisbane Motorcycles Yamaha’s Dean Ferris put in a stunning lap around the already-rutted Appin circuit to claim the MX1 Top 10 Pole Shootout.
His time of 1m46.547s was quarter of a second quicker than Boost Mobile Honda Racing’s Jed Beaton, who set the early pace in the session.
Kirk Gibbs (KTM Racing Team) stayed in contention with a good lap-time to finish third-fastest, ahead of Kyle Webster (Boost Mobile Honda Racing) and Aaron Tanti (CDR Yamaha Monster Energy).
Matt Moss (WBR Yamaha), Brett Metcalfe (GO24 KTM), Hamish Harwood (KTM) and Todd Waters (Raceline Husqvarna Berry Sweet Racing) filled positions sixth through to ninth.
CDR Yamaha Monster Energy’s Luke Clout was demoted from seventh to 10th in the Shootout results after incorrectly entering the mechanics’ area during the first qualifying session.
In the first MX1 qualifying session Beaton claimed the honours, more than 1.3s faster than Ferris, with Webster taking third.
