Three-time Australian MX1 champion Dean Ferris has surfaced aboard a Yamaha amidst widespread speculation that he will make a shock return to the Penrite ProMX Championship in 2023.
Following a single season at Honda Racing, Ferris announced his retirement from full-time competition ahead of the final round of ProMX at Coolum in August, able to conclude this chapter on his ‘own terms’.
The 32-year-old came out of retirement for 2022 – previously retiring ahead of the 2021 season following a spinal injury over two years ago – and finished second in this year’s MX1 championship with multiple victories to his credit.
Ferris has achieved a wealth of success with Yamaha in the past, notably dominating the MX Nationals premier class with CDR Yamaha between 2016-2018. He also tasted victory at a global level with the brand, taking an MX2 World Championship overall win in Belgium during 2013.
After sharing a teaser aboard a YZ125, it’s understood that Ferris is in line to make another anticipated comeback next year equipped with the all-new 2023 YZ450F in a newfound collaboration with Brisbane Motorcycles, which will be in high contrast to the factory-backed Honda organisation of Yarrive Konsky that he was part of this season.
