Convincing performance at RedBud a platform for Aussie line-up.
The Lawrence brothers and Mitch Evans formed a formidable Australian line-up for the 75th Monster Energy Motocross of Nations (MXoN), with the trio outlining their future potential as Team Australia following podium success at RedBud.
This year marked the first time that the group competed together for MXoN and was Jett Lawrence’s maiden outing at the prestigious event, also making his debut on a 450. The two-time 250MX champion impressed to take overall in Open despite vision issues in race three.
“Yeah, it was really good, that second one I felt not too bad, not the greatest start but I had a little bit of trouble with the goggles at the end which is a bit of a bummer because I felt like my pace was a bit faster,” Jett Lawrence explained.
“But happy we got on the box first year and happy I got the overall win for Open. Just can’t wait for next year, I feel like we have a really strong team, you are going to be seeing us a lot in the next few years so hopefully, we do better and better each year.”
A former MX2 winner at the event, Hunter Lawrence was the best-placed 250F rider in the first outing and recovered from falls during race two to secure second overall in the category for the day.
“Everyone rode awesome, they left it all on the track and no one gave up regardless of what happened,” said Hunter Lawrence. “We’ve got some good years to come and this is a great year to kick off, first time we are on the team together so we are looking forward to it, it’s going to be a good few years ahead of us.”
Evans made his third MXoN appearance in 2022 and the number 43 helped Australia secure a comfortable P3 overall, with the Aussie squad having a 23-point buffer ahead of defending champions Team Italy in P4.
“The boys held it down today, I’m really thankful for them,” Evans stated. “It was such a good weekend, we were on it all weekend and just a bummer I threw it away on that last moto but plenty of good years to come, we are really excited and looking forward to it so see you next year at Ernee.”
It was the first time since 2011 that Australia has featured on the MXoN podium and the Lawrences and Evans just missed out on the runner-up spot as they finished three points behind Team France, and 10 points behind winners Team USA.
