MX2 champion scores maiden premier class victory with 1-3.
Showing immense pace onboard the CRF450R at Coolum, MX2 champion Wilson Todd landed his first overall victory in the Penrite ProMX premier class to conclude a remarkable 2022 national motocross season.
Todd made the step up to MX1 at Queensland Moto Park, competing also in the MX2 category at round seven until he wrapped up the title.
Exclusively focusing on the 450 at Coolum, Todd again was fastest in qualifying and the Top 10 Shootout, before taking the moto one victory after fending off an early charge from Todd Waters. In the second half of moto two, the number 20 closed on Waters in P2 but fell while trying to make a pass. He was able to remount and finish a comfortable third to secure the overall.
“Today was a good day, went fast in all of the practice and qualifying sessions, battled it out with my teammate Webby [Kyle Webster] and got the win in the first one,” Todd recalled. “Backed it up in the second one, I was pretty exhausted but I got a good start and held myself there.
“They passed me and pulled a little bit, I thought I could go back to the lead but ended up dropping the front over the end of a berm, and that was it. 1-3 for the overall and first one on a 450, so can’t complain.”
Prior to his entry in MX1 for the final two rounds, Todd was virtually unstoppable in MX2 this year and won five rounds with 11 moto victories en route to taking his third title in the category.
The Queensland-based rider will revert to a 250F for the FIM World Supercross Championship (WSX) later this year, confirmed to compete in SX2 for Honda Genuine Honda Racing.
