De Angelis has joined forces with Scot Racing for 2010.

Former MotoGP rider Alex de Angelis will compete in the Moto2 World Championship next year, riding a Scot Racing bike with support from San Marino for the season.

The 25-year-old rider, who scored his first MotoGP podium in 2009, is excited to continue his career in Moto2 after losing his seat at Gresini Racing in the premier class.

“I am happy to collaborate on a project where I am the standard-bearer of my nation,” explained de Angelis. “As well, in a sense, I could define the Scot Racing Team as my home team.

“I know everyone for years and some of them drink their coffee in my own bar. They have won two world championship titles and now we are working together to build a winning project in 2010, a prelude to my return to MotoGP the following year.”

The Scot team won the 250cc Grand Prix World Championship in 2009 with Hiroshi Aoyama, but had to abandon its MotoGP effort after a lacklustre year with Hungarian Gabor Talmacsi.

Team manager Cirano Mularoni is also looking forward to having de Angelis in the team, who will partner fellow ex-MotoGP rider Niccolo Canepa in the Scot Racing Moto2 team.

“It’s a long time that we were thinking of Alex de Angelis as rider of our team,” explained Mularoni. “It is San Marino’s dream, one that we would have been happy to accomplish in MotoGP, but that will start from the new class Moto2 – an innovative class that I think will offer a very interesting show.

“Our team, with a world title, aspires to the strongest available riders, not only to try to keep the record, but also to participate to this new adventure with my neighbour, gives it a lot of significance.”

The team will commence testing on the prototype chassis in the new year.
