Dual Australian and WSX entries for current outdoor leader.
CDR Yamaha Monster Energy’s Aaron Tanti will face a unique dynamic later this year when he steps back to a 250F for the World Supercross Championship (WSX), while also lining up on a 450 in the 2022 Australian Supercross Championship.
Tanti was confirmed to represent CDR in SX2 for the three-round ‘pilot’ WSX series this year, reigniting his international career after spending the past two seasons competing domestically.
The current national ProMX leader will have to split his preparation between both capacities ahead of his assault on the Australian SX1 title, but is excited at the prospect of getting to enter both the national and world championships.
“I would have loved to ride the 450 [in WSX], but it is definitely a cool opportunity to jump back on the 250 and race that on the world stage and compete against some pretty fast dudes,” Tanti said to MotoOnline.
“It is going to make my supercross season interesting, juggling between the two – riding the 450 in the Australian Supercross Championship and 250 for the World Supercross Championship – but, I’m looking forward to that.”
A four-round Australian Supercross Championship season is expected to commence in October, with the first round of WSX set for Cardiff, Wales, at Principality Stadium on 8 October. That will result in the series crossing over during the season.
The second round of WSX is expected to take place at Marvel Stadium, Melbourne, in line with a round of the Australian Supercross Championship and, if that is the case, Tanti will likely have to ride both the YZ250F and YZ450F on the same day – or at least – across the same weekend.
“It’s definitely crossed the mind… I haven’t put too much focus into that yet as we are still competing for a championship in ProMX, so that is the main focus at the moment,” Tanti added. “It will definitely be an interesting one and a new experience, but I’m probably one of the least fussy riders in the field, so I can adapt to that and do it at a competitive level.”
Alongside Tanti, Luke Clout and experienced American Kyle Chisholm have been confirmed in CDR’s WSX bid for 2022. Clout will compete in SX1 for both Australian Supercross and WSX titles, while it hasn’t been stated which class Chisholm will contest in the world championship. The team’s fourth rider is also yet to be announced.
