BMW will have two teams on the grid for the 2010 Superbike World Championship, with Austrian Roland Resch entering a privately-run BMW S 1000 RR for the newly-formed Reitwagen Motorsport team.
Following a difficult rookie WSBK season, 25-year-old Resch will switch the a BMW after a couple of seasons on Suzuki GSX-R machinery, riding one in WSBK this season after making the jump up from the Suzuki GSX-R Cup, which he won the previous year.
“Roland will race the new BMW S 1000 RR next year with some know-how and assistance from BMW, but basically the team is developing the race bike from stock production bikes on its own,” team spokesman Andreas Werth explained to the official WSBK website.
For Resch, whose best finish this year was a 16th at Magny-Cours, he’s excited to start a new season on a brand new bike for him.
“The works bike is a piece of art, but I am almost more impressed by how close the stock bike is to good racing standards,” Resch said. “The stock bike already pulls 202 horsepower with a race exhaust and remapped electronics, so it’s a very interesting base for race developments.”
The team will start testing in Australia this month in preparation for the new year.
