Promise shown by FC 250 rider with laps led at Maitland.
A breakout Penrite ProMX MX2 result was denied for Husqvarna Racing Team’s Dylan Wills at Maitland, with mishaps in both motos impacting his front-running assault at round five of the 2022 season.
Wills jumped to lead in the first moto and held P1 until half-race distance. After crashing in a rut, the number 64 was able to claw his way back into the top three before another fall meant he ultimately finished 11th.
In the second race, the FC 250 rider fought his way from fifth to third before a technical issue forced a DNF. Despite finishing P18 overall, Wills displayed some of his strongest form to date in the current Penrite ProMX Championship and showed the speed in both motos to land on the rostrum, before the mishaps.
“It was definitely a tough round, but at the end of the day you need to roll with the punches,” Wills reflected. “It’s tough to cop on the chin, but I showed a lot of promise today and it was positive to lead for a share of that opening moto.
“The silly mistakes I made in moto one were on me, but moto two I felt really good, but ran into a technical issue that we haven’t quite diagnosed yet. We’ll find out what went wrong, keep working, then come back at Coffs [Harbour] to try and get it done.”
Wills sits eighth in the MX2 championship standings following the first five rounds, with his best result coming at Mackay where he was fourth overall, courtesy of 4-5 finishes.
