Dean Ferris took home a decent haul of points from Gillman’s round four of the 2022 Penrite ProMX Championship, revealing that he suffered from the effects of mid-week practice crashes on route to fourth overall.

Ferris delivered an improved qualifying performance in the Top 10 Shootout to secure the fifth gate pick and made a great start in the opening moto to lead the early stages.

The round three overall winner was shuffled back as the race progressed, a late mistake running off track ultimately relegating him to fifth where he finished moto, bringing an end to his four-race victory streak.

After running second for the first half of moto two, Ferris suffered in the closing laps from what is believed to be lower back pain and dropped to finish fourth, taking 34 points in total from the round.

“Qualifying, I’m getting a little bit better, I was fifth and we will keep improving on that,” explained Ferris. “I got really good starts, I was in the lead a little bit.

“In the first one, I was kind of just battling with the track a little bit, found some better settings for the second one. I was in the race in the second one as well, just the last few laps were really difficult for me, just fell off the lead pace.

“Fourth overall for the weekend, very thankful to be here as I had some big crashes throughout the week while I was practising so I’m pretty sore and stiff which of course probably impacted my results a little bit.”

With the first half of 2022 ProMX complete, Ferris sits fourth in the MX1 standings, 23 points from red plate-holder Aaron Tanti. Round five of the series takes place on 26 June at Maitland, NSW.
