YAMAHA RACING:

Yamaha Racing has claimed third in the 2009 Monster Energy Super X series with Jay Marmont sealing his position in the championship after finishing on the podium at the seventh and final round of the series at Brisbane’s QSAC Stadium tonight.

Marmont was strong throughout the course of the night with the CDR Rockstar Yamaha rider finishing the round in third position on a brand new 2010 YZ450F.

Brisbane-based team, Serco Yamaha took victory in the Pro Lites with Kyle Cunningham claiming his first ever Super X round victory in front of the team’s home crowd. The result was enough for the American to seal second position in the Super X Lites championship for 250cc bikes.

Yamaha Racing’s squad of riders will now take a well earned break over Christmas before twisting the throttle again in the New Year to prepare for the Australian Motocross Championship which kicks off in April.

After one of the most challenging years of his life, CDR Rockstar Yamaha’s Jay Marmont has claimed third in the 2009 Monster Energy Super X series after finishing inside the top three at the final round of the series in Brisbane tonight.

Marmont took two round victories throughout the course of the season and held the series lead prior to the penultimate round of the championship in New Zealand last month.

The Wollongong-based rider on a new 2010 YZ450F finished fifth, third and fourth throughout the course of tonight’s three races.

“It’s been a long year for me,” Marmont said “The seven rounds of the series have been kind to me bar one and I can’t complain about the championship after claiming one more round win than last year.”

“I couldn’t have done it without my team, CDR Rockstar Yamaha who have been amazing throughout the course of the 2009 motocross and supercross seasons.

“The 2010 bike was fantastic tonight and it just kept getting better and better with each lap. It handled the wet and slippery conditions fantastically.”

CDR Rockstar Yamaha Team Principal, Craig Dack was happy to claim third in the championship and is looking forward continued success in the New Year after also claiming the 2009 Australian Motocross Championship earlier in the year.

“Considering everything that has happened this year, for Jay [Marmont] to claim third, it was a really good result,” Dack said.

“We thought the 2010 bike was magnificent tonight and considering it was a brand new bike it was great to have it claim third overall and even take a holeshot. As a team we are really looking forward to working with the bike over the next 12 months.”

With Cheyne Boyd out due to injury the CDR Rockstar Yamaha supported American, Josh Grant who made the trip out to Australia for the event to aid in his training prior to the start of the 2010 AMA Supercross Championship.

On a brand new 2010 YZ450F, Grant showed great speed early practice before accidentally hitting neutral on the rhythm section of the track which resulted in him hitting his knee. With rain pouring down during the first race, the American decided to sit out the remainder of the event rather than risk doing greater damage in the slippery conditions.

Pro Lites Report

Serco Yamaha has claimed second in the Monster Energy Super X Lites class with Kyle Cunningham capping off a top two finish in the championship by claiming victory in at the sixth and final round of the series in Brisbane tonight.

After finishing on the podium numerous times throughout the series, Cunningham recorded his first round win of the year with the young American finishing first, second and second in each of the three races of the Triple Challenge format.

The victory comes as Cunningham prepares to return to America for the 2010 AMA Supercross series after filling in for an injured Mitch Hoad.

“I had a few ups and downs throughout the season and overall it was a great learning experience for me and everybody is really nice out here,” Cunningham said from the podium.

“I couldn’t have done it without the support of Gavin Eales and everybody at Serco Yamaha. I had my sister here tonight which really helped me cross the finish line and to do it in front of the team’s home crowd was awesome.”

The evening did not go as well for Serco Yamaha regular, Kirk Gibbs who sustained a collar bone injury after falling during the opening laps of the first race. Without being able to claim points at this evening’s round, Gibbs finished the supercross season in seventh position.

Yamaha supported riders Brenden Harrison and Luke Styke finished a commendable third and fourth respectively.

The manufacturer also claimed the Manufacturers Championship in the Pro Lites category.
