South Australian veteran Brett Metcalfe has outlined his plans for the upcoming 2022 Penrite ProMX Championship, launching his own ‘GO24’ team in a move that has prompted his switch to KTM.

After splitting from Honda Racing at the end of last year, Metcalfe will race-on aboard a 450 SX-F this season and finished second behind Matt Moss in the Australian Arenacross opener at Bacchus Marsh on the weekend.

“This is something I have wanted to do for a little while anyway,” Metcalfe told MotoOnline. “I guess now is the time to do it, that was the best option I had in front of me. The GO24 brand stands for get outdoors and with 24 being my race number, we kind of put that together.

“It’s just a program that I am starting, on the racing side I have teamed up with KTM so they are giving us some support, and it’s all really early days for us, but as far as the team’s structure I will be racing MX nationals and will be the only pro rider on the team.

“My mechanic Scott Watts has started his own business, Dirt Bike Services (DBS), he’s kind of joined together to do it with me and support it as well from his side. I’m still piecing the final pieces on the roster together right now with sponsorship and I do have a junior team, basically a South Australian-based program.”

The GO24 team will be equipped with Michelin tyres, shown in the video announcement, as the first round of the 2022 ProMX Championship commences in just under two months at Wonthaggi, Victoria, on 27 March. Sponsorship opportunities are still available to join the team.
