Honda Racing signing Dean Ferris’ comeback has suffered a pre-season setback with a broken collarbone sustained in practice at the weekend’s Coffs Harbour Stadium MX event.

The three-time national champion – returning to the sport full-time in 2022 – has already undergone surgery for the injury and is wasting no time in plotting his return to riding as soon as next week.

Ferris will face a race against time in order to be at 100 percent while preparing in the lead-up to the Penrite ProMX opener scheduled for Wonthaggi on 27 March, however, it’s not expected that the injury will have any major impact on his program.

“It happens… I am glad it happened now as we have ample time to be ready for round one,” Honda Racing team owner Yarrive Konsky told MotoOnline. “It’s a minor setback. Dean is focused, he had surgery and is already back training off the bike – I admire his tenacity to return to form.”

The 2022 Coffs Harbour Stadium MX was won by Yamaha-mounted Matt Moss, ahead of CDR Yamaha Monster Energy duo Aaron Tanti and Luke Clout, claiming second and third respectively in the 450 class.
