Teenager remains hospitalised in Perth following WAMX incident.
KTM has released an official update on KTM Racing Team rider and national MX1 number two Regan Duffy, currently in a ‘critical but stable’ condition following his serious incident in the Western Australian Motocross Championship (WAMX) on Sunday.
News of the 19-year-old being injured and an outpour of support has been prominent on social media this week, however, specific information regarding his injuries haven’t been disclosed.
According to KTM, Duffy was involved in a first-lap incident during the opening moto at Bunbury and was struck by multiple bikes. He was treated by medical staff at the track before being air-lifted to a local hospital, where he was placed in an induced coma to stabilise his condition. He was then transferred by air to a hospital in Perth, where he underwent major surgery on arrival.
Duffy is now in a critical but stable condition, receiving ongoing specialist care while still remaining in a coma. Any additional updates on his condition will be posted once they become available.
“Regan’s an extremely tough athlete with a strong head on his shoulders and a physically fit and able body underneath it,” explained KTM Group Australia motorsport manager Kyle Blunden. “His injuries are very significant and he has a long road ahead of him.
“Regan has some of the best medical practitioners at one of Australia’s best-equipped hospitals, so now we need to give the required time and remain positive. Our thoughts and best wishes are with Regan, his father Darren and the entire Duffy family and friends that are there by his side. Thank you to everyone that has reached out to express their concerns and best wishes.”
Duffy was recently credited second position in the 2021 Penrite ProMX Championship as a rookie in the premier MX1 category, winning on debut at Wonthaggi’s opening round and only losing out on the title by three points when the series was declared following three rounds of a scheduled eight due to state border restrictions. He has been widely-tipped to be heading to Europe in 2022.
Each of us at MotoOnline extend our thoughts and well-wishes to the Duffy family and his supporters in these difficult times.
