Current MX2 red plate holder Kyle Webster believes an off-season focus on hard-pack surfaces is paying off after dominating in different conditions at the first two rounds of the 2021 Penrite ProMX Championship.

The Honda Racing rider is notorious for his speed and skill in the sand, which was on display at Wonthaggi’s season-opener, although the Western Australian has been adamant about establishing himself as a dominant force regardless of the track surface.

The 25-year-old proved just that in very different conditions at Canberra’s second stop of the series, where he continued his winning streak to four-straight moto victories on a challenging hard and slick circuit.

It’s a worrying sign for the MX2 field as the series heads to Gillman at the end of the month, which is set to deliver similar conditions as seen in the Australian Capital Territory.

“Being from Western Australia, I am considered more of a sand specialist, so in the off-season I focused on improving my hard-pack skills,” Webster commented.

“The team has really been putting in, we have been to Gillman twice in the past few months and I like the track. Whilst I have a decent points-lead, I can’t afford to let up. Gilman will be really important for the team and I am focused on getting maximum points there.”

The South Australian stop of ProMX ar Gillman will take place on 30 May, marking round three of the Australian championship.
