The MX Nationals fired back into life in Gympie, Queensland, after a seven-week break, for the sixth round of the championship. Taking the round overall win in the MX2 (250cc) was Yamalube Yamaha’s Jay Wilson, while CDR Yamaha Monster Energy’s Kirk Gibbs secured second in the MX1 (450cc) after taking the final moto win.
With Yamalube Yamaha’s Jay Wilson securing the overall MX2 win after a 6-5-1 result from the two back-to-back sprint races and a 16-lap moto, it was Serco Yamaha’s Nathan Crawford and Aaron Tanti who would battle it out for the third podium position. Crawford took the spot after the pair tied on points for the round. They now also sit tied in the MX2 Championship standings.
For Dunlop MX1 racers Kirk Gibbs, Luke Clout and Jesse Dobson, the Gympie MX Farm brought mixed results. Privateer Husqvarna rider Dobson took Superpole, Gibbs took the final moto win, and previous points leader Luke Clout suffered an early moto-two crash and was forced to work from 20th to ultimately finish seventh for fifth overall.
Kirk Gibbs: “It was good to get things back on track and finish up with a good result here. More importantly, the way I rode was what mattered and to be able to pass all the guys at the head of the championship and take the moto win means more to me than finishing on the podium for the day. I just need to focus on the way I ride and doing my best laps, then the results will continue to flow for the rest of the season. Thanks to the CDR Yamaha Monster Energy Team who always put in 100%. It’s nice to reward everyone on the team and our supporters with a podium place this weekend.”
The Dunlop Geomax MX33 front and rear tread pattern was ultimately the tyre used by the majority of racers, however, the MX12 was seen on some riders looking to take advantage of the deep, loose start straight surface.

It was great to see a privateer, Jesse Dobson earn his first Superpole on MX33’s front and rear, and go on to race at the front all weekend, ultimately finishing sixth overall in MX1. Great effort! Once again, we’ve seen a host of racers battling for the lead with Kirk Gibbs, Jay Wilson and Max Purvis leading the way on Dunlop Geomax rubber, while riders such as Nathan Crawford and, Aaron Tanti continue to move forward in their championship every round. We saw some interesting tyre combinations on track this round two, with some MX2 racers choosing the MX12 rear in their sprint races due to the deeply plowed start and shorter race distance, before reverting to the MX33 for the longer moto”.
